Softball Recap: Elida Comes Up Short

Elida and Wapakoneta squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Elida had to settle for second. They fell 8-5 to the Redskins. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Redskins apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Lilly Sifrit was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Sifrit wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carly Chiles, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Elida has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season. As for Wapakoneta, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-5.

As of now, neither Elida nor the Redskins have any future games scheduled.
