Softball Game Preview: Brandon Bulldogs vs. Oak Grove Warriors

The Brandon Bulldogs will venture away from home to challenge the Oak Grove Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Oak Grove took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Brandon, who comes in off a win.

Brandon is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: Northwest Rankin, who was ranked first at the time (Brandon was ranked seventh). The Bulldogs came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 5-2 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

Dakota Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chloe Jenkins, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Hannah Jo Sullivan, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Oak Grove didn't have quite enough to beat Northwest Rankin on Thursday and fell 3-2. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Oak Grove saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jersey Ancalade, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Brandon's win bumped their record up to 19-4. As for Oak Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10.

Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Brandon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. However, it's not like Oak Grove struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Brandon came out on top in a nail-biter against Oak Grove when the teams last played back in March, sneaking past 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
