Baseball Recap: Valor South Austin Drops Season-High Score on LBJ Austin

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Valor South Austin). They were the clear victors by a 20-3 margin over the LBJ Austin Jaguars on Tuesday. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

Jacob Mathis was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Timothy Noble was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Beck Forrester was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

Valor South Austin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as LBJ Austin only posted a batting average of .267.

Valor South Austin is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for LBJ Austin, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.

Valor South Austin will face off against East Austin College Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. This will be the Falcons' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. LBJ Austin will be paying especially close attention to Valor South Austin's game: after Valor South Austin faces off against Grace Academy, they'll take on LBJ Austin again at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
