Football Recap: Miramonte Matadors vs. Acalanes Dons
Miramonte lost against Acalanes back in October of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Miramonte Matadors took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Acalanes Dons. Despite 101 more yards than the Dons, the Matadors couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Miramonte's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Carson Blair, who threw for 348 yards and a touchdown, and Jack Quinnild, who picked up 149 receiving yards and a touchdown. Quinnild showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 59 yards. A healthy portion of that aerial production (103 yards to be exact) also went to Mitch Reichenbach.
Josh Elerts went supernova for Acalanes, rushing for 107 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Elerts also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack, forcing a fumble, and making a tackle. Niko White was another key player, picking up 79 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Miramonte's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Acalanes, their victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Miramonte will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Las Lomas at 7:00 p.m. on October 25th. As for Acalanes, they will venture away from home to face off against Clayton Valley Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
