Baker County and Montverde Academy are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Baker County Wildcats will venture away from home to challenge the Montverde Academy Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Baker County 1.9, Montverde Academy 0.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Baker County fell victim to Baldwin and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians. The Wildcats' loss signaled the end of their undefeated season.
Baker County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Masyn Barlow, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Kentlee Payne also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Montverde Academy put another one in the bag last Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by an 18-3 margin over Lake Weir. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Missy Odom made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Odom was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Danika Spinogatti was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Elena Friedman was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-4.
Montverde Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .680. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Montverde Academy's victory was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.9 runs. As for Baker County, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 7-1-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Baker County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Montverde Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
