Basketball Recap: Wausa Vikings vs. Winside Wildcats

The Wausa Vikings scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They came out on top against Winside by a score of 46-28 (the very same score they lost by the week prior). The victory was some much needed relief for Wausa as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Wausa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sienna West led the charge by scoring 14 points along with three steals. Elle Brazel was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six steals.

Winside's loss came despite strong showings from Ellie Topp and Hadleigh Schutt. Topp scored 14 points along with eight rebounds, while Schutt dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 50% of Winside's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Wausa's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-13. As for Winside, their defeat was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-16.

Wausa will square off against the Bees at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Winside, they will be playing at home against the Mustangs on Tuesday. Stanton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Wildcats in Nebraska (the Mustangs are ranked 134th, while the Wildcats are ranked 278th).
