Volleyball Recap: Karis Vernelson Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Southview Christian

Victory Christian posted their closest victory since September 20, 2024 on Friday. They won by a set and slipped past the Southview Christian Conquerors 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Cardinals: when they faced off against the Conquerors back in August, they had to take a 3-2 loss.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (102-98) Victory Christian actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 13-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 15-9.

Victory Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Karis Vernelson led the charge by getting 13 digs, 11 kills, and four aces. Those 13 digs gave Vernelson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Smith, who had seven kills, five digs, and four aces.

The win made it two in a row for Victory Christian and bumps their season record up to 9-3. As for Southview Christian, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2.

Victory Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 loss against Covenant Christian Academy on the 20th. As for Southview Christian, they will challenge Shining Light Baptist Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
