Basketball Recap: Avery County Picks Up Sixth Straight Win on the Road

Avery County extended their postseason success on Friday against Polk County. They walked away with a 67-58 win over the Polk County Wolverines. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.

Leading Avery County to victory were Caroline Hollifield and Hallie Johnson. Hollifield almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Johnson went 5-for-11 on her way to 15 points and three steals. What's more, Johnson posted two blocks, the most she's had since back in January. Maddy Barrett was another key player, putting up nine points and six boards.

Avery County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 13 consecutive matchups.

Avery County's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.2 points over those games. As for Polk County, their loss ended a 15-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 23-2.

Coming up, Avery County will challenge Mountain Heritage at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain Heritage will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something Avery County surely won't give up without a fight. Polk County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
