Baseball Recap: Vela Has No Trouble Against Mcallen

Vela had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt McAllen on Friday. The Sabercats put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 8-2 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-4 last Tuesday.

David An looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Vela let Nick Guevara and Matthew Abundiz run wild. Guevara went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Abundiz scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Vela is 4-1 when Abundiz posts two or more runs, but 8-9 otherwise. Rolando Solis was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Vela's victory bumped their record up to 12-10. As for McAllen, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14-3.

Vela has already played their next contest, a 14-0 loss against Sharyland on the 8th. As for McAllen, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 5-1 defeat against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial on the 8th.
