Economedes is 1-9 against La Joya since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Jaguars will host the Coyotes at 7:00 p.m.
Economedes is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Friday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Edinburg. That's two games in a row now that the Jaguars have lost by exactly three runs.
Josiah Villareal put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Villareal wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gilbert Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask La Joya). Everything went their way against Edinburg North on Friday as they made off with an 18-3 win. The Coyotes have beaten the Cougars the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Cougars has come to flipping the script.
La Joya let Gael Zambrano and Samuel De Leon run wild. Zambrano went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while De Leon went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave De Leon a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ivan Marron, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
La Joya always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edinburg North only posted an OBP of .364.
La Joya's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Economedes, their loss dropped their record down to 6-17.
Economedes might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from La Joya in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Jaguars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
