On Thursday, Wellsboro was able to grind out a solid victory over Towanda, taking the game 9-5.
Gabe Sprouse made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Sprouse was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Cameron Owlett was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. Ryder Bowen also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Wellsboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Jersey Shore beat Columbia Montour Vo-Tech 10-6 on Monday. That's two games straight that the Bulldogs have won by exactly four runs.
Greyson Confair looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Landon Welshans, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Collin Berguson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Jersey Shore has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 12.0 runs this season. As for Wellsboro, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
