Basketball Recap: St. Johns Piles Up the Points Against Camp Verde

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Johns). They claimed a resounding 65-20 win over the Camp Verde Cowboys. Given the Redskins' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Cowboys are ranked 202nd) , the win on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Johns to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jordan Tsinajinnie, who posted nine points along with five boards and four steals. Another player making a difference was Abby Wagoner, who shot 45% from the field to rack up 10 points and six steals.

St. Johns smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 40 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Camp Verde still got an impressive performance from Areli Ortiz, who had six points.

St. Johns' record now sits at 7-2. As for Camp Verde, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

St. Johns has already played their next contest, a 58-24 victory against St. Michael on the 12th. As for Camp Verde, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 56-24 defeat against Fort Thomas on the 11th.
