The North Port Bobcats will square off against the Mariner Tritons at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. North Port is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
North Port took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Charlotte, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bobcats came out on top in a nail-biter against the Fightin' Tarpons on Thursday, sneaking past 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bobcats have posted against the Fightin' Tarpons since March 7, 2022.
Payson Rumley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on nine hits.
At the plate, Kaitlin Kohlenberg was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. Hailey Perez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Mariner unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 7-1 to North Fort Myers.
Lilly Kitto was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
North Port has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Mariner, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. North Port has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mariner struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
North Port took their victory against Mariner when the teams last played back in March of 2021 by a conclusive 9-0 score. Do the Bobcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tritons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
