Basketball Game Preview: Southwest Roughriders vs. Cedar Catholic Trojans

The Southwest Roughriders will take on the Cedar Catholic Trojans at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Southwest sitting on 22 straight wins and Cedar Catholic on three.

Southwest is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Pleasanton: they outscored them in every quarter. Everything went Southwest's way against Pleasanton on Friday as Southwest made off with a 64-42 victory. The Roughriders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 20 points or more this season.

Southwest's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Allison Vanpelt, who shot 46% from the field on her way to 14 points along with five assists and four steals. Vanpelt has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyra Nelms, who went 7-for-15 en route to 15 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Cedar Catholic walked away with it. They were the clear victor by a 65-42 margin over the Eagles on Friday. With the Trojans ahead 43-21 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Southwest better keep an eye on Anisten Wortmann. She was instrumental in Cedar Catholic's win, shooting 56% from the field to rack up 16 points along with five boards and five steals. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Arens, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Cedar Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. They are 8-1 when they hit their own glass that hard.

Southwest pushed their record up to 23-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 26 points. As for Cedar Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 15-11.
