The Vassar Vulcans will take on the Bad Axe Hatchets at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Vassar will be strutting in after a victory while Bad Axe will be coming in after a defeat.
Vassar headed into their last contest having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Akron-Fairgrove let them put that streak behind them. The Vulcans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Vikings a 12-0 shutout on Wednesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Vulcans as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Dakota Jaynes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Jaynes was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Vassar got a massive performance out of Seth Hecht, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Hecht a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trevor Gleeson, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Vassar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Bad Axe was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 6-2 to Memphis.
Bad Axe's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Vassar, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6.
Vassar's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. The Vulcans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Bad Axe, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Vassar continue to outrun the ball?
Vassar took their win against Bad Axe when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 14-0 score. Do the Vulcans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hatchets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
