Softball Recap: Maryvale Panthers vs. South Mountain Jaguars

Maryvale extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-16. They lost 19-4 to the South Mountain Jaguars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jaguars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-8 last Tuesday.

As for South Mountain, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.

For South Mountain's part, Alexia Ramirez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Ramirez was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Sarah Guzman was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Melany Olozagaste Gordillo, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Maryvale will square off against Marcos de Niza at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for South Mountain, they will challenge Cesar Chavez at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
