Recap: West Laurens Raiders vs. Westside Seminoles
The West Laurens Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight loss. They fell 67-57 to Westside. While losing is never fun, West Laurens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 462nd, while Westside is ranked 167th).
Several Raiders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dorian Watkins, who scored 15 points along with four steals. Watkins' trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Rj Whipple was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westside to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chauncey Williams, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Williams is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cam Rembert, who scored 17 points.
West Laurens' loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Westside, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.
West Laurens the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome East Laurens at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. East Laurens will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for Westside, they will head out on the road to square off against Spalding at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Bahji Daniel and Joshua Harden.
