Volleyball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Win

Cardinal Gibbons proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by three) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a set and slipped past the Plant Panthers 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Crusaders sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.

Cardinal Gibbons had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 24-26, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22, 15-11.

Mary Grace Gonyeau paced Cardinal Gibbons' offense, picking up 18 kills. Gonyeau got some help from Genevieve Harris and her 60 assists. Harris was also a major player on defense: she and Amelia Bell shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with four each.

Cardinal Gibbons' victory bumped their record up to 15-2. As for Plant, their loss was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 10-7.

Coincidentally, Cardinal Gibbons and Plant will both be playing Winter Park the next time they take the court. The Panthers will host the Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Crusaders will play them later in the day, at 2:00 p.m.
