Basketball Recap: Brooklyn Brown's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Morrill over Crawford

Morrill was the 61-53 winner over Crawford when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Morrill Lions took a 51-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crawford Rams on Saturday.

Morrill's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooklyn Brown, who posted 18 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Allison Ott was another key player, putting up six points in addition to ten rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Morrill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Crawford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Keslyn Vogel, who put up 20 points along with eight boards and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Vogel has scored at least a third of Crawford's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Osmotherly, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 15 points and five rebounds.

Morrill has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season. As for Crawford, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Morrill Lions challenge the Banner County Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Morrill is facing Banner County at the right time seeing as Banner County is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Crawford, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Edgemont at 4:00 p.m.
