Haverling is on a nine-game streak of home wins, while Wellsville is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Rams will welcome the Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Haverling 1.2, Wellsville 1.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Wellsville's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Saturday: Haverling hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Rams never let Waterloo get on the board and left with an 18-0 win on Thursday. Considering the Rams have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Caydence Spears was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Lane Prescott, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Haverling kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Wellsville posted their closest victory since April 27th on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Avon, sneaking past 2-1. The two-run effort marked the Lions' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Makenna Dunbar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Wellsville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kennedy Perry, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Lindsay Stuck also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Haverling's win bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Wellsville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Haverling hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .392. However, it's not like Wellsville struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Haverling came up short against Wellsville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 4-0. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
