League recap: Roland scores huge upset over Checotah

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Roland, who took down 96th ranked Checotah, 22-20. Brooks Robertson threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 46 yards in the win.

The Rangers moved up to 125 from 175 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A District 8. Roland was able to make the jump by beating the Wildcats 22-20.

Blake Smittle was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 260 yards on 37 carries as Heavener topped Checotah. Teammate Dillan Stallings added to the ground attack by rushing for 82 yards.

Cade Shearwood provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Stigler bested Spiro. He completed seven passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 211 yards. Shearwood's favorite target this week was Ryan Echelle, who caught one pass for 45 yards.

Bunch was the best wideout in the league this week as the Rangers defeated Brandon Turley's team. Bunch tallied four receptions for 59 yards. Austin Cantrell helped Roland's passing attack out by catching two balls for 50 yards.

6-foot-2 quarterback Robertson of Roland is the league leader in passing yards this season with 516. He has also thrown nine touchdowns. On the ground, the Wolves' Smittle has rushed for 1063 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Rogelio Seranno. The Heavener star has 13 catches for 246 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Roland takes on second place Heavener. Last week, the Rangers beat the Wildcats, while Heavener topped Valliant.

Roland was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to first in the league. Earlier in the week, the Rangers triumphed over Checotah 22-20.
