Recap: Weeki Wachee Hornets vs. Central Bears
The Weeki Wachee Hornets and the Central Bears squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but sadly the Weeki Wachee Hornets had to settle for second. They were beaten by the Bears 89-54. While losing is never fun, Weeki Wachee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 595th, while Central is ranked 177th).
Weeki Wachee's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Matthew Stumpf, who scored 14 points, and Jean Garcia who scored 14 points along with two steals.
David Villarroel was his usual excellent self, scoring 26 points along with seven rebounds and five assists for Central. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Villarroel has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Joyner, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and six steals.
Weeki Wachee has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-19 record this season. As for Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.
Weeki Wachee does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Central will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Hernando at 7:00 p.m. on February 10th. Hopefully Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Thursday.
