Basketball Game Preview: Simi Valley Pioneers vs. Schurr Spartans

The Simi Valley Pioneers and the Schurr Spartans will round out the year against one another at at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Simi Valley and four for Schurr.

Simi Valley's tournament run continued when they took on Murrieta Mesa on Saturday. Simi Valley took a 58-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Murrieta Mesa. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Pioneers came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 304th, while the Rams are ranked 687th).

Despite the defeat, Simi Valley had strong showings from Andrew Oglivie, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 10 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, and Trevor Hiscocks, who posted six points in addition to nine boards and seven assists. Hiscocks is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Joaquin Cunanan, who put up six points.

Meanwhile, Schurr lost to Grand Terrace at home by a 66-49 margin on Saturday.

Schurr's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Simi Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
