Softball Recap: Turner Gets the Win

Turner proved they can win big on Friday (they won by seven) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Callisburg Wildcats, sneaking past 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted since April 4, 2025.

Grecia De La Garza made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

De La Garza wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Serrano, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Jamisen Graves also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Turner hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Turner pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Callisburg, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Coming up, Turner will take on Palo Duro in a tournament on Saturday. As for Callisburg, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Collinsville at 5:30 p.m.
