Baseball Recap: Crete Wins Going Away Against Raymond Central

Crete barely beat Raymond Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Crete was the clear victor by a 14-4 margin over Raymond Central on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won four contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Everett Heath and Brooks Piening did most of the damage at the plate: Heath got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Piening scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most RBI Heath has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nick Wendt, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.

The victory made it two in a row for Crete and bumps their season record up to 5-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Raymond Central, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Crete Cardinals challenge Fremont Tigers at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Crete is facing Fremont at the right time seeing as Fremont is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Raymond Central, they will take on Twin River at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
