Softball Recap: West Vigo Vikings vs. Brown County Eagles

West Vigo put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Brown County Eagles with a sharp 11-3 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what West Vigo needed considering they were shutout in their previous matchup.

Carlea Funk spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, West Vigo got a massive performance out of Jaleigh Lindley, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and a double. Ariana Elkins was another key contributor, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

On Brown County's side, Lexie Austin was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with a home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Stogsdill, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

West Vigo has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Brown County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

West Vigo will be playing at home against Sullivan at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sullivan will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something West Vigo surely won't give up without a fight. As for Brown County, they will head out on the road to square off against South Putnam at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. South Putnam is coming into the contest with three straight victories at home, so Brown County will have to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
