Softball Recap: Burroughs Burros vs. Sultana Sultans
Burroughs had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-13 to make it four. They lost 19-1 to the Sultana Sultans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sultans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 on April 1st.
Burroughs saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabella Farinha, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
As for Sultana, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Sultana's side, Maricruz Venegas made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Venegas was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Jordan Mullinax was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jadielyn Rodriguez, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burroughs will challenge Hesperia at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Burros are facing the Scorpions at the right time seeing as the Scorpions are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Sultana, they will square off against Oak Hills at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Sultans surely won't give up without a fight.
