Basketball Game Preview: Lamar Texans vs. Cypress Creek Cougars

The Lamar Texans will challenge the Cypress Creek Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Friday, Lamar humbled Cesar E. Chavez with a 72-29 victory. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Texans had established a 27 point advantage.

Meanwhile, Cypress Creek came tearing into Tuesday's contest with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 50-49 W against the Eagles. That's two games straight that the Cougars have won by just one point.

Lamar is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a massive bump to their 17-15 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points over those games. As for Cypress Creek, they pushed their record up to 25-11 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home.

Lamar came up short against Cypress Creek in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 59-46. Can Lamar avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
