Basketball Game Preview: Morenci Wildcats vs. Santa Rita Eagles

The Morenci Wildcats will face off against the Santa Rita Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Morenci is coming into the contest hot, having won their last nine games.

Morenci is headed into the match having just posted their biggest win since January 7th on Thursday. Everything went their way against Tombstone as Morenci made off with a 72-50 victory. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 304th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Santa Rita was just a bucket shy of victory on Wednesday and fell 46-45 to Duncan.

Santa Rita has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Morenci, they pushed their record up to 21-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home.

Everything came up roses for Morenci against Santa Rita in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 73-38 victory. Will Morenci repeat their success, or does Santa Rita have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
