Basketball Recap: Sunnyside Starts Season with Victory Against Gila Ridge

Sunnyside gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They breezed past the Gila Ridge Hawks to the tune of 75-44. That's more bragging rights for the Blue Devils, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Sunnyside's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carlos Cardenas, who posted 13 points along with five boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Nathan Schofield, who shot 71% from the field en route to 22 points.

Sunnyside didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 79-68 victory against Canyon del Oro on the 26th. As for Gila Ridge, they have also already played their next contest, a 69-66 defeat against Casa Grande on the 21st.
