Basketball Recap: Springfield Comes Up Short

Springfield's tournament run continued when they took on Swink on Saturday. The Springfield Longhorns took a 49-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Swink Lions. The Longhorns have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Springfield still got an impressive performance from Colby Batterton, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards. Batterton is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Gunnar Mort was another key player, putting up 13 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Springfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Swink to victory, but perhaps none more so than Landon Mills, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 15 boards. That's the most rebounds Mills has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Paolucci, who put up 13 points.

Springfield's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Swink, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-14 record this season.

Springfield has already played their next matchup, a 64-47 loss against Granada on the 25th. As for Swink, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-44 win against Rocky Ford on the 28th.
