Baseball Game Preview: Simeon Wolverines vs. Chicago Mt. Carmel Caravan

The Simeon Wolverines will head out on the road to challenge the Chicago Mt. Carmel Caravan at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Simeon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

Simeon is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs last Thursday, they were much more limited against Lane Tech on Monday. They fell 4-1 to the Champions. The Wolverines' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Christian Lott was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Simeon is 7-1 when Lott allows two or fewer earned runs, but 9-10-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Simeon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Jones Jr, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Chicago Mt. Carmel was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They fell just short of Lincoln-Way Central by a score of 2-1. Like the Wolverines, the Caravan also had to let a streak go: they had won three straight, but that streak is no more.

Matt Murphy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

Chicago Mt. Carmel's loss dropped their record down to 20-13. As for Simeon, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-11-1.

Simeon skirted past Chicago Mt. Carmel 3-2 in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
