Softball Game Preview: Summerville Bears vs. Calaveras Red Hawks

Summerville hasn't had much luck against Calaveras recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bears will host the Red Hawks at 5:00 p.m.

Summerville fell victim to Calaveras and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Red Hawks. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Bears' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

For Calaveras' part, Kamryn Thornburg was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Thornburg has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, firing off four doubles and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendra Baechler, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Victoria Velasco, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Calaveras always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Summerville only posted an OBP of .227.

Calaveras has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Summerville, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.
