Hurley are taking a road trip to take on Exeter at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
It was a proper cat-fight when Hurley took on Chadwick on Monday. The Tigers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cardinals an 11-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won five in a row.
Hurley let Mason Dunn and Chase Bowling run wild. Dunn went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Bowling went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two hits gave Bowling a new career-high. Danial Keithley also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Hurley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Exeter came into Monday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over Wheaton on Monday.
Cameron Brattin was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Brattin was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Exeter's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-11 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Kason Nelson was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with seven stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Exeter: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11 otherwise. Cason Antle was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
The victory got Exeter back to even at 11-11. As for Hurley, their record is now 5-15-1.
Hurley couldn't quite finish off Exeter in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can Hurley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
