Baseball Recap: Riverside Has No Trouble Against Mayfield

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against North, Riverside was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They blew past the Mayfield Wildcats 13-2. This was payback for the Beavers, who suffered a 5-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Riverside got a great performance from Mason Pozo as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Pozo is becoming a predictor of the Beavers' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 4-1 (and 3-6 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Austin Wittreich, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. He has become a key player for Riverside: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Mo Dolce, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Riverside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Riverside has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Mayfield, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Riverside beat the Wildcats by a score of 5-1 on Wednesday.
