Baseball Recap: St. Bernard's Extends Winning Streak to Seven

St. Bernard won against South Fork last Tuesday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Crusaders' pitchers stepped up to hand the Cubs a 14-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Quentin Ikeya made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Michael Manzi was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Mateo Reiman also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

The victory (which was St. Bernard's seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for South Fork, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Bernard's will face off against Middletown at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Fork, they will square off against Ferndale at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
