Baseball Recap: Washington Gets the Win

Washington took a 12-run loss the last time they faced off against Turner, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Golden Bears on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since May 2, 2024.

Luis Lopez was incredible, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Washington: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 0-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Fennix, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Washington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .556 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Washington's win bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Turner, their defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-10.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Golden Bears beat Washington by a score of 23-2 later that day.
