Baseball Recap: Springstead Triumphs

Springstead came out on top against Central on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Eagles took their matchup against the Bears 7-2. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won four in a row.

Matthieu Opolski-Roe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Springstead is 2-1 when Opolski-Roe allows one or fewer hits, but 2-5 otherwise. Opolski-Roe was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Smith, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Carlos Vega also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Springstead's record now sits at 4-6. As for Central, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Looking ahead, Springstead will venture away from home to take on Hernando at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Leopards have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Central, they will welcome Nature Coast Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sharks' pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so the Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
