5A Region II District 9 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Pearce's J.r. Griffin rumbled for the longest rushing play in 5A Region II District 9 this season in his game against White last week. Griffin's team topped the Longhorns as he sprinted for 93 yards on the play and finished with 236 in all.
Pearce was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in the league. Randy Robertson's team beat White 47-28 earlier in the week.
The Mustangs' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Rhett Svetgoff threw for 167 and one touchdown and Ryan Stanton had 93 yards receiving. Griffin helped Pearce's passing attack out by catching four balls for 37 yards.
Pearce's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Mustangs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Svetgoff has thrown for 708 yards and five touchdowns this season, while Griffin has 31 catches for 402 yards. Griffin leads the league in rushing with 413 yards.
A big matchup in 5A Region II District 9 this week will be when Eric Ezar's team takes on Dallas Jesuit. At the moment, the Longhorns are in fourth, while the Rangers are in second.
Dallas Jesuit took down Berkner 52-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
