Basketball Game Preview: Chiefland Indians vs. Lafayette Hornets

The Chiefland Indians and the Lafayette Hornets will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.

On Thursday, Chiefland came up short against Trenton and fell 57-45.

Meanwhile, Lafayette entered their tilt with Dixie County on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 43-41 victory over the Bears. The win almost wasn't to be: the Hornets were down 34-19 in the third quarter.

Lafayette's win came from a few key players Chiefland will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jordan Murphy, who posted 17 points and three steals. His evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamarcus Smith, who earned four points and 12 rebounds.

Lafayette smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Lafayette is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points per game. As for Chiefland, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.

Everything came up roses for Chiefland against Lafayette in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the squad secured a 62-29 victory. Does Chiefland have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lafayette turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
