Basketball Recap: Ella Gettings' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gila Ridge over Kofa

Gila Ridge was the 43-40 winner over Kofa when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Gila Ridge Hawks fell to the Kofa Kings 36-32.

Gila Ridge lost on Friday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ella Gettings, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. Gettings is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Reagan Monroe, who posted six points.

Even though they lost, Gila Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Kofa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Madison DeBoe led the charge by putting up ten points and five steals. DeBoe continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Amani Montiel was another key player, going 6 for 15 en route to 14 points and four steals.

Gila Ridge dropped their record down to 5-12 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Kofa, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-10.

Gila Ridge will take on Camelback at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. As for Kofa, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 36-20 win against San Luis on the 28th.
