Baseball Recap: Monroe County Victorious

Monroe County took a 16-run defeat the last time they faced off against Allen County-Scottsville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Monroe County had just enough and edged out Allen County-Scottsville 7-6 on Friday. For the Falcons, this counts as revenge for the 20-4 victory the Patriots walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2022.

Travis Wood was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

In other batting news, Luke Watson was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Kaleb Stinson was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Monroe County now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Allen County-Scottsville, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe County will challenge Russell County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Russell County's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Monroe County's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Allen County-Scottsville, they will square off against Butler County at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
