Softball Recap: Jasper Triumphs

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Jasper had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Gibson Southern Titans 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted against the Titans since May 7, 2018.

Brianna Barrix made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over eight innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carlee Rogers, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

Jasper kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.

Jasper's record is now 18-10-1. As for Gibson Southern, they moved to 21-9 with that defeat, which also ended their ten-game winning streak.

Coming up, Jasper will take on Evansville Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. Gibson Southern does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
