The Lafayette Central Catholic Knights are taking a road trip to challenge the Twin Lakes Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lafayette Central Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
Lafayette Central Catholic is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 32 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Carroll on Tuesday. They came up short against the Cougars, falling 14-1. The Knights have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Lafayette Central Catholic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julia Mazur, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Mazur has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Abby McCaw also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Twin Lakes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-10 heartbreaker at the hands of Peru. Even if the Indians couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Leah Shrock was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Miya Clerget was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.
Twin Lakes' defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Twin Lakes' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lafayette Central Catholic has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Twin Lakes, though, as they've been averaging 10.9 hits. Given Lafayette Central Catholic's sizable advantage in that area, the Indians will need to find a way to close that gap.
Lafayette Central Catholic couldn't quite finish off Twin Lakes in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
