Soccer Game Preview: Payton College Prep vs. Jones

The Payton College Prep Grizzlies will head out to take on the Jones Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Monday, Payton College Prep didn't have quite enough to beat Solorio and fell 3-2. While losing is never fun, Payton College Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 321st, while Solorio are ranked 67th).

Zara Lau and Samantha Pilgrim scored both of Payton College Prep's goals, bringing their combined season tally to four goals.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Jones and Lincoln Park meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Lions. With Jones ahead 4-1 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Jones is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 28 goals over those six contests. As for Payton College Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Payton College Prep took their victory against Jones in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. Do the Grizzlies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
