Softball Game Preview: West Jefferson Roughriders vs. Minster Wildcats

The West Jefferson Roughriders will challenge the Minster Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. West Jefferson is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.

West Jefferson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Danville a 3-0 shutout. Three seems to be a good number for the Roughriders as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Jenna Mannon was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Zoey Brown was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one double.

Meanwhile, Minster had just enough and edged out Lincolnview 4-3 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Brooklyn Osterloh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Addi Inskeep was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Caroline Knapke was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

West Jefferson's win bumped their record up to 20-2-1. As for Minster, their victory bumped their record up to 18-6.

Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Jefferson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .393. However, it's not like Minster struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
