Porterville is 7-2 against Mt. Whitney since December of 2014 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Porterville Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Mt. Whitney Pioneers at 7:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Porterville has eight straight wins, Mt. Whitney has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Wednesday, Porterville humbled El Diamante with a 67-34 victory. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Mt. Whitney took a blow against Monache on Wednesday, falling 75-37. While losing is never fun, the Pioneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1201st, while the Marauders are ranked 599th).

Porterville has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.9 points per game. As for Mt. Whitney, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-18.

Porterville beat Mt. Whitney 52-40 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Will Porterville repeat their success, or does Mt. Whitney have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
