Softball Recap: Stryker Comes Up Short

Stryker extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-3 in the process. They lost 34-1 to the Montpelier Locomotives. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 20-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Stryker saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kayla Fultz, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Montpelier, the victory got them back to even at 5-5. That 33 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

On Montpelier's side, Madelyn Hopper was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Hopper has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kelsie Bumb, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Zoe Uribes was another key player, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Stryker wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 24-1 defeat against North Central on the 17th. As for Montpelier, they have also already played their next match, a 5-3 win against Hilltop on the 16th.
