Baseball Recap: Haywood Has No Trouble Against Bolton

Haywood got themselves on the board against Bolton on Tuesday, but Bolton never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 12-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Tomcats in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won five in a row.

Cordarion Jelks and Owen Stanley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Jelks tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Stanley tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Haywood is 2-1 when Jelks allows three or fewer hits, but 4-14 otherwise. At bat, Jelks scored a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Stanley scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. What's more, Stanley posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Kevion Woodland was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Jaziel Santiago also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Haywood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bolton only posted an OBP of .316.

Haywood's record is now 6-15. As for Bolton, their loss was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-10.

Coming up, Haywood will host Lakeland Preparatory at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Tomcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bolton, they are taking a road trip to square off against Fayette Ware at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
