Football Game Preview: DeMatha Stags vs. Our Lady of Good Counsel Falcons

The DeMatha Stags are taking a road trip to face off against the Our Lady of Good Counsel Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. DeMatha is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

DeMatha is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Riverdale Baptist: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Stags blew the Crusaders out of the water with a 43-6 final score. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Stags' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland football rankings (they are ranked second, while the Crusaders are ranked 35th).

Meanwhile, Our Lady of Good Counsel didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against St. Mary's Ryken on Friday, but they still walked away with a 27-21 victory. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

A big part of Our Lady of Good Counsel's victory came down to the chemistry between Jackson Rice and his top target Kobe Ellis. Rice threw for 190 yards and three touchdowns while Ellis picked up 102 receiving yards and three scores. Those 102 receiving yards gave Ellis a new career-high. Paul Alston handled things on the ground, rushing for 87 yards.

DeMatha's record is now 5-0. As for Our Lady of Good Counsel, their record now sits at 4-2.

DeMatha was able to grind out a solid win over Our Lady of Good Counsel in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, winning 16-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Stags since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
